Poker is a card game in which players compete to win money by matching their cards to the best hand possible. The game is played in 4 stages, called the flop, turn, river and showdown.
The first stage, called the flop, is where all the cards are dealt face up on the table. These are community cards that everyone can use. Each player gets a chance to bet, check or raise.
Once the first betting round is complete the dealer puts a fourth card on the board, which is known as the turn. During this round each player gets another chance to bet, check or raise.
At this point the dealer deals a fifth card, which is known as the river. During this final betting round all the remaining players have their cards exposed and the person with the highest ranked hand wins the pot.
