How to Play Online Poker

Generally, poker is a game of chance. The player who has the highest hand wins the pot, but if two players have the same hand, they split the pot.

There are four basic categories of hands in poker: Pairs, Straights, Flush and Full House. In each category, the highest card is the one that wins.

In a tie, the high card breaks the tie. If there are a number of people with the same high card, then the highest card of the group outside the pair or straight wins. The lowest straight is five-four-two-A. The highest straight is called the Royal Flush.

If there is a tie, the player who has the highest unmatched fifth card wins. The best natural hand is a straight flush.

A low straight flush is formed by an ace. The ace can count either high or low, but cannot wrap around the K-A-2-3-4. In order to form a straight flush, the cards must be in order.

A straight is a sequence of five cards, with no wraparounds. The straight starts with the highest card. If there are a number of consecutive straights with the same value, they will be split. If there are a number of pairs, then they will be compared. The higher pair wins, if the pairs are of equal rank. The second pair wins if there are ties.

A full house is a combination of three cards of one rank and two cards of another rank. The full house is also known as sevens on tens.
