Typically, poker is played with a standard deck of 52 cards. Some variant games use multiple packs. There are also wild cards, which can take any suit.
A player’s best hand is what wins the pot. If two or more players have the same hand, the high card breaks ties. When more than one player has a pair, the second highest pairs win.
The best natural hand is a straight flush, which is a five-card hand that is made up of all cards of the same suit. Other hands include pocket kings, which are referred to as cowboys.
If the player has a hand with two separate pairs, plus the fifth card, he is considered to have a Full House. If the player has a hand with two cards without pairs, he is classified as a “Full House”.
A straight flush is usually the highest natural hand. However, it may not wraparound. A high or low ace may break a tie. If a player has a flush and a four-of-a-kind, the flush wins.
In the game of poker, each player is dealt a hand of five cards. A five-card hand is often dealt face-down.
Each player may discard up to three cards. The house dealer will then deal cards to each player in turn.
When a poker player raises, he must match the previous bet. If he does not owe anything to the pot, he can check. If he owes something, he must call. When a player calls, he takes the pot.
