All About Poker
Poker has always been one of the most popular games ever played by individuals both old and new. One thing that people tend to not really realize about poker though is that poker was originally developed as a game of skill rather than luck. Today poker has been simplified to where players can enter a game and not really even have to know anything about what they are doing to win.
Poker started out as three games: Texas Holdem, Five Card Stud, and Draw Poker. The idea of playing poker was that you would sit around with your friends and have card matches depending on who was willing to lay down the first card. In the Draw Poker game you would lay down a card and wait for the person to show you a hand and if you show them a good hand then you would get to keep the pot. Texas Holdem and Five Card Stud were the two most popular variations of poker at one point in time but today there are hundreds of variations to choose from.
There are a couple different types of betting in poker. In Texas Holdem you will be betting the amount of the chips that are in the pot, which means that if you end up getting more chips that you have to win the pot no matter what. In Draw Poker you will be betting a pre-set amount of chips and if you win the hand then you will end up getting all of the chips that were in the pot. There are other betting formats as well including Caribbean Stud, Five Card Stud, and Ace Bonus. In Caribbean Stud all of the players get to take turns making bets until someone ends up with the maximum number of chips that is in the pot. A five-card stud is where all of the active players in the table get to act and make bets while dealing out chips and it is basically dependent upon what suits are present in the particular game.
